To The Work!

cffblog6.jpgJanuary 6, 2018 Saturday)

We are about a week into the year 2018, and can look back to that first week, asking ourselves, "Are we about the work of our Master?" There is a stirring old hymn for which Fanny Crosby provided the words, "To The Work!" As we look forward to this year, we know it is brimming with opportunites of serve to our Lord. This hymn reminds us that our faith is not only about what God does for us, but also about what we can do for God.

In the video that follows, the words of this hymn are displayed as they are sung. We need to let these words penetrate our hearts and souls, inspiring us to serve our Lord in 2018.

"The Dallas Christian Adult Concert Choir" sings the melody ("Toiling On") of To the Work" composed by William Howard Doane 1871, and sings words written long ago by Fanny Crosby.

1. To the work! To the work!
We are servants of God,
Let us follow the path that our Master has trod;
With the balm of His counsel our strength to renew,
Let us do with our might what our hands find to do.

Toiling on, toiling on,
Toiling on, toiling on,
Let us hope, let us watch,
And labor till the Master comes.

2. To the work! To the work!
Let the hungry be fed;
To the fountain of life let the weary be led;
In the cross and its banner our glory shall be,
While we herald the tidings,
"Salvation is free!"

Toiling on, toiling on,
Toiling on, toiling on,
Let us hope, let us watch,
And labor till the Master comes.

3. To the work! To the work!
There is labor for all;
For the kingdom of darkness and error shall fall;
And the love of our Father exalted shall be,
In the loud-swelling chorus,
"Salvation is free!"

Toiling on, toiling on,
Toiling on, toiling on,
Let us hope, let us watch,
And labor till the Master comes.

4. To the work! To the work!
In the strength of the Lord,
And a robe and a crown shall our labor reward,
When the home of the faithful our dwelling shall be,
And we shout with the ransomed,
"Salvation is free!"

Toiling on, toiling on,
Toiling on, toiling on,
Let us hope, let us watch,
And labor till the Master comes.
