National Take Your Dog to Work Day

"National Take Your Dog to Work Day" takes place today, Friday, June 23. This year marks the 19th annual event.

It was created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) to celebrate the great companions dogs make and promote their adoptions. The event encourages employers to experience the joys of pets in the workplace for one day to support their local pet community.

PSI feels that through the events, non-pet owners are able to witness the special bond their co-workers have with their pets firsthand and be encouraged to adopt a new best friend of their own.

PSI does not track the day's participation rates because companies are not required to register in order to participate. However, the association's tracking tools indicate that overall involvement around the event grows each year.

This reminds me of the times when a dear lady brought her little dog to church every Sunday. She came early and her canine friend helped her greet everyone coming through the front doors by barking. Needless to say, it was not a permanent arrangement.

Reminds me of another story about a dog whose owner was unknown but who came to church every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. He would appear at the door, walk down the aisle, take his position near the pulpit, and appear to hang on every word spoken throughout the service. After the closing prayer, he would walk to the door and disappear until the next Sunday. True story.

Evidence continues to accumulate that pets are good for people. When we give thanks to the Lord for His blessings, let's remember our animal friends as blessings from God.
