What is a "blog?"

October 30, 2009 (Friday)

picture of CharlesMany of us use the word, “blog,” without ever wondering where such a word originated. “Blog” is one of the words generated by the computer revolution of recent years that has changed our vocabularies as well as our daily habits.

For those with an inquiring mind, I give the info about the word, “blog.” It is a contraction of the words, “web” and “log.” It is a journal or diary that is posted on the Internet. A list of fifteen or so definitions of the word or forms of it can be found here.

Today’s blog is number 785 for me. I really don’t know why I continue to clutter the internet with these ramblings, but the reason I keep giving myself is that it keeps my brain working, and it’s good discipline to have an obligation that rears its head every day of the week, excluding weekends, when my mind is turned toward homilies (sermons).

So, now that I have set at ease the minds of those of you who were frustrated with curiosity, wondering what a “blog” is, I bid you farewell until Monday.

In the meantime, if you want to read an excellent -- and I mean, "excellent" -- blog about Halloweeen, read Dr. James Dennison's "God Issues Today" blog entitled, "Burying Mickey Mouse."
