Baloney, anyone?

There's always a good supply

September 10, 2009 (Thursday)

picture of CharlesYesterday’s date was 09/09/09. We’ve had similar dates each year since the millennium began with 01/01/01. We’ll have three more: 10/10/10, 11/11/11 and 12/12/12. The 12/12/12 date has been in the news a lot in recent months, because some folks think that on that date the world will either face a cataclysmic event of some kind or an end to history.

Seems the Mayan calendar ends with the December 2012 date, and many unwarranted conclusions have been drawn from that fact.

What is it about us that feasts on such ideas? Time after time, throughout history, people have expected and predicted an end to their era accompanied by awful events of one kind or another.

I have one word for all these kinds of predictions: BALONEY!

We know that Jesus will return because he told us so, but he also told us that not even he knew when it would happen. Only our Heavenly Father knows. That's what Jesus said.

I know of only one other prediction for the future that will probably come true, and that’s the one that says our sun will eventually burn out of control and the solar system will be incinerated with it. That’s a prediction based on observable scientific phenomena, and it’s billions of years in the future.

Jesus warned against setting dates for end-time events. Why do we persist in doing it anyway?
