Billy Graham

Ninety years old

November 12, 2008 (Wednesday)

picture of CharlesLast Friday Billy Graham celebrated his 90th birthday.

The phrase, “a legend in his own time,” is loosely used in reference to great people, but in Billy Graham’s case, the description fits.

He knew all the presidents, and royalty welcomed him around the world. Even the Pope invited him to the Vatican for a meeting. Frankly, the world has never seen anything like this man.

Forever the humble servant of God, he never claimed to be anything but God’s messenger, and his message was always the simple gospel of Jesus Christ, which he never compromised.

From the fire and enthusiasm of his youth to the steady, knowledgeable and wise man he has become, he has set the pace for all the rest of us who preach the gospel. His example will stand before the world for all time.

It is a great privilege for us all to have lived in the same chapter of history as Billy Graham, the man who has preached the gospel to more people than anyone else, perhaps to more than all the rest of us combined. I’m 5 days late, but “Happy Birthday, Billy Graham.”
