This is a very sad day for all of us who knew Walter Knight. He died early yesterday.
He knew he was very sick. That’s why he resigned from the ministry in May, 2006.
Walter was everyone’s “best friend.” His ability to make people feel that way was a trait that very few people have.
As for me, personally, he let me know he loved and appreciated me and wanted me to remain in the church. Considering the fact that he was following someone who had retired after 31 years, his gracious spirit toward me was unbelievably loving and kind. He was my pastor, and, to some extent, I was his. We trusted and loved each other.
I will miss him.
Let us all pray for his entire family and all those who feel this loss.
Memorial services will be held at Denison and in Rockport. The Rockport service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church.
